Snow removal problems

The FWDCA recognizes that there were significant problems with the quality of the work performed by the plow contractor on December 19. The contractor was informed on Saturday that the issues would need to be corrected before payment was rendered. The contractor came back and corrected the deficiencies on Sunday Dec 21. The FWDCA instructed the contractor to open the center of all streets first, this caused a number of complaints. From now on the FWDCA contractor will work one street at a time. Each street will be substansially completed before moving on the next street, also the contractor will now be using a slightly smaller truck with a front mounted plow to better enable them to get curb to curb on each street.

Also it was brought to our attention that people were threating the plow drivers, we would like to remind you that this is not acceptable behavior.

Snow Plowing

The FWDCA contractor will plow the streets when there is 3 inches or more of snowfall. Please keep as many vehicles off the street as possible when a plowable snow is forecast. Neighborhood Cleanup a Success

The cleanup got off to a bit of a late start, but utilizing five volunteers eight properties were able to receive attention. Some of these properties still could use more work, and there are obviously properties we were not aware of. Our focus this time was three pronged: 1) clearing overgrowth away from the main structure, 2) properties we had received complaints on, 3) the most visible of the problems. We will likely do this again sometime, possibly before the winter season comes. What we ask of the neighbors is to help keep the properties maintained.

Neighborhood Cleanup

Broken Car Windows

Early this morning many car windows were shot out in the neighborhood. We estimate there are at least 15-20 vehicles that were affected. The hardest hit streets were Beaverland and Parkland based on what we know so far. This follows a similar incident last Monday in which approximately 10 vehicles were effected. If your windows were shot out please make a police report by calling (313) 267-4600or go to the Northwest District located at 11450 Plymouth road an make a report in person.

Recycling this saturday (7/19) in NW District

On Saturday, July 19, 2008, Rosedale Recycles will be ready to receive your recyclable items at their usual spot in the parking lot of Christ the King Church at Burt Road & Grand River, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. free bicycle licenses saturday

Police Chief Ella M. Bully-Cummings along with the Detroit Police Department’s executive team, the three police unions, and the Detroit Firefighters Association have come together to provide a special gift to the children of Detroit. On Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., more than 800 FREE bicycle licenses will be available for children 15 and under (first come, first serve) at various locations citywide.
To take part, parents can register their child’s bicycle at their nearest Police District Station. Each District Station will have at least 100 free bicycle licenses to
give away. The bicycle being registered must be on site. In addition to the six Police Districts, 100 free licenses
will also be available to children 15 and under at two separate locations: the North Rosedale Park Community
House and the Butzel Family Recreation Center.
The FREE bicycle licenses giveaway will take place at the following locations:

Career Fair

The City of Detroit is hosting a Career Fair tomorrow, Thursday, June 12, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. There will be over 40 employers and educational partners on site, as well as, career training, ongoing resume and interviewing workshops and a ‘Dress for Success Fashion Show’.

The event will be held at Cobo Conference/ Exhibition Center in Wayne Hall. Persons attending should be dressed for an interview and have several copies of their resume.

Yard Waste & Bulk Pickup Reminders

The city will collect yard waste placed in paper bags on your regular trash collection day. The city will NOT collect yard waste on bulk collection day.
Yard waste placed in plastic bags WILL NOT be picked up at any time, nor should it be taken to the Southfield Yard. The plastic is not biodegradable like the brown paper bags.
Yard waste may also be placed in personal cans that do not exceed 32 gallons.
Tree limbs should be less than 2 inches in diameter and no more than 4 feet long, in a neat pile.
Bulk Waste: The one cubic yard limit (about the size of a washing machine) limit is still in effect for bulk waste.
